When my husband and I first purchased our home in Italy we fell in love with the Italian lifestyle. Their focus on the best and most beautiful things in life is what makes them truly stand out. I watched how they cooked and I followed their methods. And while I was there I was an AMAZING cook. But once I came back to California, my cooking, despite using the same methods and freshest ingredients was generally no more than pretty good.
I was ready to give up cooking in California because it would never reach the stellar heights that my favorite dishes in Italy did.
Then One Day I Decided To Find The Basic Thing That Made Italian Cuisine The Best In The World...And I DID!
You see there is really ONE BASIC INGREDIENT that is the basis for so many Italian dishes. I'll give you a hint, it is also one of the most ancient food discoveries in the world and has stood the test of time.
And once I discovered the magic of this ingredient and its importance, and more importantly HOW TO USE IT CORRECTLY, my cooking bumped up to a much higher level and my life became so much richer as a result.
So now I am on a mission, NO! A CRUSADE to help others start on their own personal SLOW FOOD RENAISSANCE and to demystify the mysteries, and pull out the vital information about this ingredient so that everyone, including YOU can take your cooking and your life to a stellar level.
I Wasn't Always Someone SO PASSIONATE About the Italian Lifestyle.
I was a stressed out working mom for a lot of years and one day something truly awful happened that made me stop short and make a change.
You see, I bought into those woman's magazines that told me I should be a busy corporate executive with rock hard abs and perfect hair and make up, who rushes home just in time to read a bedtime story to her kids before hitting the hay and doing it all again the next day.
Unfortunately in chasing those false realities, I lost my true self. I lost what was truly important in life, the beautiful moments we share over a great meal, the sense of community, the art, the beauty, the architecture and the love and tolerance inherent in the Italian culture.
So after something really horrible happened I quit my job and started trying to create beautiful moments here in America. But I could never shake the idea that I had failed because could not make the corporate working mom thing work.
Then I went to Italy and I saw that the problem was not with ME. It was with our CULTURE.
But how does one import an entire Italian culture here to California? There must be a starting point. And then I realized that much of the Italian culture revolves around truly great meals.
And every Italian meal revolves around super high quality, crafted, Italian, Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
